Plate tectonics

 Plate tectonics

Plate tectonics is the scientific theory that Earth's outer layer, the lithosphere, is divided into large, rigid plates that move independently across the planet's surface. This movement causes earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and mountain building along the plate boundaries, providing a unifying framework for understanding many geological processes.
